Description:
Asian 19mm Transparent Black Tubing is a lightly saturated transparent black borosilicate glass tube made in China and supplied in long straight lengths for efficient lampworking production. It is manufactured as hollow tubing with a consistent round profile so it heats evenly, seals cleanly, and stays controllable when you are stretching, blowing, or welding in sections. Transparent black is used when you want the look of black with more depth and light transmission than an opaque, making it especially useful for layered color work, encasement, and pieces where you want shadow and contrast without completely blocking light.
How it is used:
This tubing is typically cut to working length, warmed evenly to prevent chill marks, then worked like standard borosilicate tubing for forming and assembly. It is commonly used for blowouts and small vessels, for pulling down into smaller tubing, and for welding in colored sections between clear or other colors. In functional and scientific style builds, it is also used for collars, mouthpieces, and transitions where you want a darker tone without the heavy visual density of opaque black, and it can be sleeved over clear to create a deeper neutral layer while still keeping the work readable.
