Asian 40mm Green Profile Tubing is a transparent colored borosilicate profile tube made with a scalloped exterior. This style of tubing is produced as formed profile cane rather than standard round tubing, giving you built-in surface geometry that reads immediately once it is shaped into a finished piece. The color is a heavily saturated transparent green, designed to stay bright and clean when worked hot and to give strong color coverage on larger hollow builds.
Profile tubing is chosen when you want visual texture without having to carve, coldwork, or build up surface pattern by hand. The scallops can be left crisp for a bold, faceted look, or softened in the flame for a more organic, flowing surface while still keeping the “ribbed” character that catches highlights.
How it is used:
In lampworking, this tubing is commonly used as the starting body for larger hollow forms.
You typically heat and rotate the tube evenly, then blow out and shape vessels, bodies, and sleeves while preserving the scalloped profile, stretch and condense sections to place texture exactly where you want it in the design, add clear or colored sections for transitions, collars, and attachments while keeping the profile as a visual feature, and soften the profile slightly to round it off, or keep it sharper by working cooler and using controlled heat.
Because it is a larger diameter tube, steady preheat and even rotation are key to keeping the wall temperature consistent and preventing thin spots from forming as you expand or pull.
