Description:
Asian-made borosilicate color tubing in a transparent black formulation, produced as a consistent, machine-drawn tube that provides a uniform hollow starting point for flameworking. Transparent black is used when you want a dark, smoky appearance that still transmits light, giving more depth than an opaque black and allowing internal forms, encasement effects, and layered color work to read through the surface. Color tubing is chosen to provide continuous color coverage and a predictable wall without having to build a hollow form from solid rod, which saves time and helps keep wall thickness even as you inflate and shape.
How it is used:
This tubing is used as a hollow blank for lampworking. A typical workflow is to cut a section, fire-polish the ends, and then attach a handle or blow tube for controlled heating and inflation, or seal one end to start a bubble for shaping. The 50mm diameter is well-suited for very large hollow bodies where you want maximum starting volume and an uninterrupted color surface, such as oversized vessels and large sculptural components. Transparent black tubing is especially useful when you want a moody, high-contrast base that can be backed with bright colors, used for layered striping, or combined with clear for depth and dimensionality while still keeping the overall look dark and refined.
