Asian-made clear borosilicate rod, machine-pulled for consistent diameter and reliable working characteristics. Clear rod is the primary building stock in lampworking because it can be used on its own for clean, transparent work, or used as a structural base for joins, handles, bridges, and reinforcement where you want strength without introducing color. A 5mm diameter is a versatile everyday size that heats quickly, seals cleanly, and is easy to control for both small functional components and detailed sculptural work.
How it is used:
This rod is used directly in the flame for lampworking. It can be melted down to make seals and attachments, pulled into stringer for fine line work, or used as a small handle and punty for manipulating parts during assembly. Clear 5mm rod is commonly used for making and reinforcing joints, adding feet and small supports, building up rims and lips, and creating clean encasement layers when paired with compatible color. It is also a practical choice for making small tubing connections and transitions where you want a controlled amount of glass without overwhelming the heat balance of the piece.
