This is clear borosilicate rod stock made in a consistent 7mm diameter, intended for lampworking and scientific-style fabrication where clean, predictable clear is the foundation for strong seals and crisp visual clarity. Clear boro rod like this is produced as solid cane, then cut down for shipping and handling. In the flame it stays relatively stiff compared to soft glass, holds its shape well during heat-and-pull operations, and is commonly chosen when you need a neutral base material that will not introduce color shift into the finished work.
Because it is solid rod rather than tubing, it is especially useful when you want to build up mass, pull points, make solid handles and punty-style attachments, create solid sections for joins, or pull stringer and cane with reliable stiffness and control.
How it is used:
Clear 7mm boro rod is typically used as a primary forming material in bench torch work. It is commonly heated evenly, then:
- Pulled down into stringer for linework, encasement prep, and fine attachments
- Built up into gathers for small sculptural work, seals, and solid components
- Used as a handle rod for rotating and controlling small parts during assembly
