Fools Gold is a transparent borosilicate color rod that is formulated to strike red. This makes Fools Gold Mid a strong choice when you want a piece to have depth and a “worked” look, where the color develops as you build, reheat, and finish.
In lampworking, a transparent striking rod like this is commonly used for layered color, blown work, and any application where you want light to travel through the glass while still gaining a rich, warm final tone. Because it is transparent, it can be used over clear to build dimensional color, or it can be used in thinner applications such as stringer and surface lines to create controlled red strike effects.

Use BB SB Fools Gold Mid when you want a transparent base that can be heat-struck to red. It is well-suited for:

- Wrapping and layering over clear for depth, then striking during finishing cycles

To develop the strike, work the glass, allow it to cool slightly out of the flame, then reintroduce it with controlled heat to bring up the red tones. The more you manage your heat and cooling rhythm, the more consistent and intentional the strike will be.
