BB SB Hoosier Blend Mid is a borosilicate color rod blend made to develop into a striking red. It is manufactured as solid rod stock for torchworking, with the blend formulated so the final tone is brought out through deliberate heatwork rather than appearing fully developed straight off the rod. This makes it a strong choice when you want a red with more depth and movement than a simple transparent, especially in pieces where the surface finish and color development are part of the visual impact.
How it is used:
Use this rod in a borosilicate lampworking setup for sculptural builds, blown sections, and layered color work where you want a red that will strike and mature as you work. Warm the rod gradually, keep your working zone evenly heated, and apply it as wraps, overlays, and surface bands over a stable base color. You can also pull it into stringer for fine line detail and highlights, then reheat the finished area evenly to help the red develop consistently across the surface.
