How it is used:
Use BIV as you would other borosilicate color rod in a torch.
- Bring the glass up to temperature evenly to avoid shocking and to keep the heat base consistent through the gather.
- Use it for solid work such as sculptural elements, handles, feet, and small components where you want the indigo color to remain opaque.
- Pull stringer for linework and detailing, keeping the pulls slightly heavier when you want the color to stay more opaque.
- Apply wraps and overlays onto clear borosilicate, then shape and refine, using controlled stretching to manage how opaque the color remains.
- Use it as a color backing layer under clear when you want depth and a clean finished surface.
