Description:

Berne Fire Resistant Hoodie (2XL) is a flame resistant fleece hoodie designed to provide an added layer of protection for torchwork, kiln loading, and other shop tasks where brief exposure to heat, sparks, or incidental flame contact is a risk. It is constructed from 12-ounce flame resistant fleece made from 75 percent modacrylic and 25 percent cotton. The hoodie includes a flame resistant brass front zipper covered by a storm flap with a concealed hook and loop closure at the top, two-needle stitched main seams, a three-piece hood with a flame resistant drawstring, two front patch pockets, and flame resistant rib knit cuffs. In a lampworking studio, a garment like this is used when you want a comfortable, everyday layer that helps reduce the chance of clothing ignition while working at the bench, especially during long sessions or when moving between the torch and kiln. It meets the requirements of ASTM F1506, NFPA 70E, and OSHA 1910.269.

How it is used:

Wear the hoodie as an outer layer over natural fiber clothing while working at the torch, doing kiln work, or handling hot tools and warm equipment around the studio. Keep sleeves down and cuffs snug to reduce loose fabric near the flame. Use the hood when you want extra coverage around the neck and head area while still maintaining proper eye protection and ventilation practices. This type of flame resistant layer is most effective when paired with good shop habits such as tying back hair, avoiding synthetic underlayers, and keeping work areas clear of ignition sources.
