Item Name:
Black Dop Faceting Wax
SKU:
DOPWAX
Description:
Black dop wax is a hard, high-strength wax used to temporarily bond a piece of glass to a dop stick or faceting arm so it can be ground and polished on a lapidary wheel. It is formulated to soften and flow when heated, then set up firmly as it cools to create a strong hold during cutting and faceting work. This style of dop wax is favored when you want maximum grip and stability during higher-pressure faceting steps.
How it is used:
Warm the end of a dop stick and the wax until the wax becomes pliable and tacky. Apply a small amount of softened wax to the dop, then press the glass onto the wax and align it to the desired orientation for cutting. Allow the wax to cool fully so it hardens and locks the piece in place before beginning faceting or grinding. When finished, gently reheat to soften the wax and release the glass.
Dimensions:
- Each stick is about 10 inches to 10 1/2 inches in length and 5/8 inch in width
- Black dop wax melts at about 160F
