The Black Fly Steel Pulse Split 3/5 Lens is a pair of Black Fly Steel Pulse safety glasses that have been modified by Aura Lenses. The factory lenses have been removed and replaced with a split-filter lens set designed specifically for lampworking. A split lens combines two different filter densities in one lens so you can look through the darker portion for working in the flame and through the lighter portion for general bench viewing, tool handling, and checking detail without constantly lifting your glasses. This style is popular for borosilicate and soft glass torchwork where you need strong sodium flare protection at the torch while still keeping good visibility around the studio.
How it is used:
Wear these glasses whenever you are working at the torch to reduce eye strain and protect your eyes from sodium flare and the intense visible light produced during lampworking. Position your head so your working view is through the darker portion of the split when you are in the flame, then shift your gaze through the lighter portion when you are reaching for tools, reading a ruler, or inspecting surface detail at the bench.
