Black Silicon Carbide (100)

SKU:

AB5032

Description:

Black Silicon Carbide is an extremely hard blasting abrasive used in sandblasting cabinets for etching and frosting glass. This grade is 100 grit, which is a versatile medium grit that cuts efficiently while still leaving a refined, even surface. It is supplied as loose abrasive media that flows through a blasting gun and can be reused many times, similar to other common blasting medias. In lampworking and glass studios, black silicon carbide is chosen when you want shorter blast times and a cleaner, more polished-looking etched finish on borosilicate, soft glass, and finished components prior to assembly, engraving, or final presentation. When ordered as a quantity of one, it is shipped as a forty-five pound large flat rate box of black silicon carbide with packaging, and shipping is adjusted manually because it ships only in a large flat rate box.

How it is used:

Load the media into a compatible sandblasting cabinet and use a blasting gun to direct the abrasive stream at the glass surface. Adjust air pressure and distance to control how aggressively it cuts. Use it for etching logos, deep carving, and creating matte finishes, then rinse and clean the piece thoroughly to remove residual abrasive before handling or flame work. Reclaim and sift the media as needed to extend reuse and maintain consistent cutting performance.

Special Note:

When you order a quantity of one you will receive one forty-five pound large flat rate box of nothing but black silicon carbide and packaging. This item ships only in a large flat rate box so your shipping cost will be adjusted manually when this item is purchased.
