Description:

Black silicon carbide 1000 is a very fine, hard abrasive grit used in glassworking for controlled surface finishing. It is manufactured as sharp, angular silicon carbide particles graded to a 1000 grit size, which makes it suitable for fine smoothing steps after coarser grinding. In lampworking and coldworking, this grit is commonly chosen when you want to refine a ground surface, reduce visible scratch depth, and prepare glass for pre-polish steps without removing excessive material.

How it is used:

Use this grit with water as a slurry on a flat surface such as a glass plate, steel plate, or other lapping surface, then move the glass across the abrasive to smooth and refine the area being worked. It can also be used on appropriate laps or pads designed for loose abrasive. Rinse the piece and work area thoroughly between grit changes to avoid contamination from coarser particles, which can re-scratch the surface.

Special Note:

When you order a quantity of one you will receive one forty-five pound large flat rate box of nothing but black silicon carbide and packaging. This item ships only in a large flat rate box so your shipping cost will be adjusted manually when this item is purchased.
