Dark Muddy Waters is a heavily saturated transparent brown, like a little water poured into a glass of dirt. It is a strong earthy tone that adds depth without turning opaque, making it useful when you want a natural brown that still lets underlying form, encasement, or surface detail show through.
How it is used:
Heat your borosilicate base in a neutral flame, then roll or dab the hot glass into a frit tray or small pile to pick up the amount you want. Melt the frit in gradually, keeping the piece warm and rotating so the granules smooth down evenly. For the cleanest transparent brown, work neutral to slightly oxidizing and avoid heavy reduction that can muddy the transparency. This small grain size is great for spot color, light layering, and building up coverage in stages.
