Description:

Boro Crow White Iridized Tubing is a borosilicate tubing product manufactured by Boro Crow Labs with an inert metallic coating applied to the glass surface. This coating is designed to be torch-safe and does not off-gas when exposed to direct flame. Each tube shows a range of color effects that shift from blue to green to magenta sparkle. The base glass used for this product is 25mm outer diameter by 4mm wall thickness Asian borosilicate tubing.

In lampworking, coated iridized tubing is used when you want strong iridescent color shift effects similar to dichroic tubing while keeping material costs more accessible. Because the coating is on the surface, the tubing must be sleeved and encased to be worked properly. This means the coated tube is protected inside clear borosilicate glass so the coating remains stable and visually crisp while you heat, shape, and blow the piece.

How it is used:

Choose a clear borosilicate tube or sleeve that fits your intended build, then warm both the iridized tubing and the clear glass gradually in a neutral flame to reduce thermal shock. Bring both pieces to an even working temperature and make a clean seal while keeping the tubing aligned and rotating steadily.

Once sleeved, heat the assembly evenly and work in a controlled neutral flame so the coating remains bright and the clear encasement stays smooth. From there you can shape the piece, pull points, create sections for seals, or do controlled blowouts while keeping the wall thickness even. If you are new to sleeving and encasing coated tubing, use the video link provided on the product page as a technique reference before attempting complex assemblies.
