Brown Aluminum Oxide (400)

Description:

Brown aluminum oxide is a synthetic abrasive blast media made from fused aluminum oxide and graded to a very fine 400 grit. It is harder than most dry abrasive blast media, enabling it to cut even the hardest metals, and it can be re-used many times. In lampworking and other glasswork, a 400 grit abrasive is chosen when you want an especially smooth, refined matte finish with very even diffusion and minimal visible texture. This is the grit you reach for when the goal is final presentation quality frosting, subtle surface softening on decorative work, and the cleanest possible finish after stepping down from coarser blasting media.

How it is used:

This media is used in a sandblasting cabinet or a pressure pot blaster. Load the media into the blaster, then set air pressure conservatively and adjust nozzle distance to maintain a gentle, controlled cut. Keep the nozzle moving in smooth, overlapping passes so the finish stays uniform and you avoid striping. On thin lampworked components, avoid dwelling on edges, seals, and sharp transitions where stress can concentrate. Reclaim and sift the media as needed to remove glass dust so the finish remains consistent, since this abrasive can be reused many times.

Dimensions:

When you order a quantity of one you will receive one forty-five pound large flat rate box.
