Description:
Devardi Rod - Opaque Burgundy is a 104 COE soft glass rod made from opaque burgundy colored glass. This rod is constructed from solid glass and measures 6 to 10 millimeters in diameter and 8 to 12 inches in length. Opaque burgundy is a deep, rich wine-colored glass used in lampworking for creating bold, sophisticated color work on beads, pendants, sculptural elements, and decorative pieces. The opaque quality ensures the color remains solid and vibrant without becoming transparent in the flame, making it ideal for layering, encasing, and building high-contrast designs.
How it is used:
Heat the end of the burgundy rod in the flame until it becomes soft and workable, then gather the molten glass onto your mandrel or marver. Use the rod to add color and dimension by wrapping it around your bead or form, or melt small sections into your piece for controlled color application. The rod can be pulled into stringer for fine detail work, or used at full diameter for bolder coverage. Work gradually to avoid thermal shock, and allow the burgundy glass to cool slowly to prevent cracking.
