Description:
Devardi Rod - Opaque Saffron is a full-size 104 COE soft glass rod made from opaque saffron colored glass. The rod is constructed as a solid, consistent diameter that is ready to work directly from the torch without any additional preparation. Opaque saffron is a warm, golden-yellow tone that is chosen for bold color applications, warm base layers, and vibrant decorative elements that remain solid and readable in the flame. This rod is ideal when you want to build up substantial color quickly or create larger sculptural elements where the opaque quality ensures the color stays true throughout the heating and cooling process.
How it is used:
Heat the rod slowly in the outer flame until it is evenly warm throughout, then bring the tip into a working flame to gather a molten ball of glass. Roll the gather across a frit tray or dip it into frit to add texture and color, or apply it directly to your bead or workpiece by touching the molten gather to the surface. For layering, allow each layer to cool slightly before adding the next to maintain color separation and prevent muddy blending. If you are pulling stringers from this rod, heat a section until it is glowing red, then pull steadily to create thin, consistent strands for detail work.
