Description:
Devardi Rod - Transparent Amber is a 104 COE soft glass rod made from transparent amber-colored glass. It is produced as full-size lampworking rod that is meant to be worked directly in the torch flame for beads, small sculpture, and decorative components. Transparent amber is commonly chosen when you want a warm honey-brown tone that still transmits light, making it useful for layered color work, encasing, and building depth over metallics, reactive colors, or darker bases while keeping the finished piece visually bright and dimensional.
How it is used:
Introduce the rod to the flame gradually to prevent thermal shock, then heat to a smooth working glow and apply by winding onto a mandrel for beads or by gathering and shaping for small sculptural forms. Use a neutral to slightly oxidizing flame to help keep the color clean and reduce unwanted scorching. For layering, apply amber as a base or overlay, then shape and marver as needed before bringing the piece to an even heat for final smoothing. Anneal using a kiln schedule appropriate for 104 COE soft glass.
