It is made from compatible colored glass that has been drawn down into a thin, consistent strand so you can apply fine lines and small amounts of color without adding bulk. Transparent green is commonly chosen when you want clean color that still allows light to pass through, which helps preserve depth and clarity in layered designs, encasement work, and delicate surface decoration.
How it is used:
Stringer is used when you need controlled, precise application of glass for linework and small decorative elements. Warm the stringer gradually in the outer flame to prevent thermal shock, then bring the tip to working temperature. Touch the molten tip to the hot bead or workpiece and trail lines, scrolls, dots, or fine wraps as needed. This is especially useful for adding detail over a base color, building simple patterns, and creating clean accents before light shaping or encasing. For best results, keep the base glass warm while applying stringer so the decoration bonds smoothly and you avoid chill marks.
