Devardi Rod - Transparent Sunset Red is a transparent soft glass rod intended for 104 COE lampworking and beadmaking. It is produced as colored glass that is melted, refined, and drawn into rod form so it can be worked directly in the flame with consistent handling. Transparent sunset red is typically chosen when you want a warm red that still transmits light, which helps maintain depth and glow in layered work, encased designs, and transparent overlays where an opaque red would feel heavier or block light.
How it is used:
Rod glass is used as the primary material for making beads, small sculptural components, and decorative elements. Warm the rod slowly in the outer flame to reduce thermal shock, then bring the tip to a working temperature and apply it as wraps, gathers, or thin layers over a base color. Transparent reds are often used as overlays to enrich color without losing clarity, and they can be built up in thickness to intensify saturation.
