Description:

Devardi Millefiori - Violet Stars is a soft glass millefiori cane made for 104 COE lampworking. It is constructed as a patterned glass cane with a violet star design running through the cross section, created by layering and fusing colored soft glass into a bundle and pulling it into a consistent cane. Millefiori is used when you want repeatable, highly detailed pattern slices that would be difficult to build by hand in the flame. Violet star milli is commonly used for adding crisp decorative star motifs to beads, pendants, marbles, and small sculptural components, either as surface decoration or as an inlaid design that is melted in and shaped smooth.

How it is used:

Warm the millefiori cane slowly at the far edge of the flame to prevent cracking, then heat the end until it is soft enough to nip off a thin slice with mosaic shears or a sharp nipper. Preheat the slice on a warm surface or in the kiln if needed, then bring it to a gentle glow and place it onto a warm bead or glass surface. Reheat carefully to tack it down, then melt it in until the edges are fully seated. For a smooth finish, continue heating until the slice levels with the surface, then shape as desired and anneal using a schedule appropriate for 104 COE soft glass.
