Description:
Double Helix Arke Rod is a 104 COE soft glass rod produced by Double Helix Glass. Arke is the production version of a popular test batch from the 2013 ISGB Gathering, IL-581. The glass is formulated to develop exterior metallic finishes when exposed to reduction flame chemistry. Depending on flame temperature, exposure time, and the reduction conditions, the surface can develop metallic finishes in silver, gold, green, red, and blue tones.
How it is used:
This glass is used in lampworking when you want to create beads and decorative pieces with striking metallic surface effects. You work the rod in your torch flame, and the metallic finishes develop through controlled reduction chemistry. A hot reduction flame produces green metallic tones, while brief exposure to a cool reduction flame yields silver tones. Red tones develop through repeated reduction cycles. You can further enhance contrast by using a small oxidizing flame to remove metallic luster from selected areas, then re-exposing those areas to reduction flame to build alternating layers of metallic finishes with different compositions. The metallic effects make each bead unique and visually distinctive.
