Description:
Double Helix Ossa is a rich purple rod with thousands of refractive inclusions dispersed throughout the glass. It is manufactured as machine-pulled rod, giving you consistent diameter and predictable handling at the torch.
In lampworking, Ossa is used when you want a surface that can be left exposed for a purple speckled look, or worked to bring up metallic and iridescent effects. If you reduce the surface, it can develop a solid silver appearance or a multicolored iridescence. When you encase the luster, it can produce a textured mother-of-pearl effect, making it a strong choice for beads, small sculpture, and blown components where you want depth and shimmer without adding extra surface decoration.
How it is used:
Use Ossa as you would other color rod at the bench. Apply it as the primary color for a piece, or use it as an accent over a base color. For a speckled purple finish, keep it clean and leave the surface exposed. For metallic and iridescent results, work the surface in a reduction flame to develop the luster. For a softer, dimensional effect, encase the worked color under a clear layer to trap the luster and create a mother-of-pearl look.
