This faceting arm is a mechanical attachment designed to convert an existing lapping wheel setup into a faceting machine. It is constructed as a rigid arm assembly that mounts to a table or workstation and positions your work at controlled angles against the spinning lap. In lampworking and glass finishing, it is used when you need flat, repeatable facets on glass components, such as pendants, cabochons, or coldworked surfaces on sculptural parts, without investing in a full dedicated faceting machine. This setup is especially useful for artists who already own a lap system and want to add precise angular cutting capability with some required mounting.
How it is used:
Bolt the faceting arm securely to a stable table or workstation near your lap system so it cannot shift during use. Set the desired angle on the arm, then bring the glass into contact with the lapping wheel using light, controlled pressure and consistent water feed as appropriate for your lap. Work through your abrasive sequence to establish the facet, then repeat at matching settings to create symmetrical facet patterns. Finish by moving to finer laps for pre-polish and polish, keeping the work supported and the angle consistent throughout.
