Fairy Dust - Grape Ape is a high temperature flake material made to refract light with an effect similar to dichroic glass when it is melted into the surface of glasswork. It is packaged in a jar containing 1.5 grams of material by weight, with a particle size range between 100 and 2000µ. Grape Ape is formulated to refract shimmering yellows, greens, and purples, giving finished work strong color travel and sparkle under changing light. These flakes are compatible with 104 COE, 96 COE, and 33 COE glass, making them suitable for a wide range of lampworking projects where surface brilliance and shifting color are desired.
How it is used:
Fairy Dust - Grape Ape is used in lampworking as a surface decoration additive for beads, pendants, marbles, and small sculptural components. Artists typically warm the glass surface until it is tacky, then roll or press the piece into a small amount of flakes so they adhere evenly. The flakes are then carefully melted in using controlled heat to keep the effect distributed and to avoid burning off the reflective quality. For a smoother finish, the material can be melted flush and lightly encased, while for a stronger sparkle it can be left closer to the surface. This product is especially effective when applied to raised details, twist work, and areas designed to catch light from multiple angles.
