Large Plugs table top is a free standing forming tool made to help lampworkers and glass artists shape consistent plug style forms. The tool is built with a stable base and a forming block that includes multiple sized cavities. A hole in the bottom of the tool allows it to slip over a peg when used with an Ear Gauge Base that is sold separately, which helps keep the tool aligned and steady during use. Each cavity is sized to help you form repeatable plug shapes by pressing and rotating hot glass into the cavity until the shape and size are correct. This style of tool is used when you want uniform results for production work or when you need a reliable sizing reference while shaping glass components.
How it is used:
- Heat your glass until it is soft enough to shape without trapping chill marks
- Choose the cavity size that matches the plug size you want to form
- Press and gently rotate the hot glass into the cavity to establish the outer profile
- Reheat as needed and repeat the press and rotate motion until the plug is even and symmetrical
- Use the tool as a sizing reference to keep sets of plugs consistent across multiple pieces
