Description:
The Large Sphere Machine 220 Volt is a powered grinding and polishing unit designed to produce precision spheres ranging from 1-1/4 inch to 9 inches in diameter. It operates on 220-volt electrical power, making it suitable for studios with higher-voltage electrical infrastructure. It uses two opposing, spring-loaded heads with adjustable cutting cups to grind a rough blank into a true sphere while the downward slant of the shafts runs the work through a bath of grit, keeping the grit slurry moving away from the bearings and reducing the need to continually apply grit by hand. As the corners grind off, the angle of the cutting cups can be increased to maintain effective cutting. This unit comes complete with two 8 inch by 1/4 inch by 1 inch spiral polishing buffs, two grit pans, instructions, a product guarantee, and a choice of one pair of cutter cups. Please state cup size when ordering.
How it is used:
- Select the cutter cup size appropriate for the sphere diameter you intend to make and install the cups on the machine heads.
- Prepare a grit slurry in the grit pans and run the sphere blank through the bath of grit to begin rounding and truing the shape.
- Increase the cutting cup angle as the rough corners grind away to keep the cutting action consistent as the sphere becomes more refined.
- Use the spring-loaded heads to maintain steady contact without constant manual adjustment while grinding.
- Switch to the included spiral polishing buffs to polish the sphere after the desired shape and surface quality are achieved.
