Moretti White Agate Alabaster is a soft glass color rod made by Effetre. It is produced as a solid, round cane in a consistent working diameter range, designed to be heated in a lampworking torch and formed into beads, small sculptural elements, and decorative components. The alabaster formulation gives a dense, light-diffusing white that is especially useful when you want strong opacity, clean contrast under surface decoration, and a dependable base for layered color work.
How it is used:
- Warm the rod slowly at the edge of the flame to reduce thermal shock, then bring it into a hotter working zone once it begins to glow evenly.
- Use it as a bead base by winding molten glass onto a prepared mandrel, then shape with marvers, paddles, or gravity for rounds, barrels, and tabs.
- Pull it down into stringer for fine white linework, dot stacks, and high-contrast scroll or lace patterns over compatible soft-glass colors.
- Use it as an opaque backing layer under reactive or transparent colors when you want patterns and overlays to read brighter and cleaner.
