This is a clear Effetre glass rod made in the Moretti style, supplied as straight rod stock in the 10 mm to 12 mm diameter range. A thicker clear rod like this is commonly chosen in soft glass lampworking when you want more glass volume at the torch, faster build-up for larger beads, and bigger gathers for sculptural elements. It is well suited for work where you want clean, transparent mass for shaping, encasing, and sealing because the larger diameter lets you deliver more clear glass with fewer wraps and fewer heat cycles.
How it is used:
- Heat the end of the rod to create a larger gather, then wind it onto a mandrel to build medium to large clear base beads efficiently.
- Use it to add thicker encasement over surface decoration when you want more depth and a smoother final contour.
- Pull it down into smaller rod or stringer when you want consistent clear line work but prefer starting from a larger stock size.
