Moretti Green Alabaster is a soft glass color rod made by Effetre. It is manufactured as a solid, round cane in a consistent working diameter range, intended to be heated in a lampworking torch flame and shaped into beads, small components, and decorative elements. The alabaster formulation produces a more opaque, diffused look than transparent colors, making it useful when you want solid coverage, softer light transmission, and color that reads clearly over a base.
How it is used:
- Preheat the rod gradually at the far end of the flame to reduce thermal shock, then bring it into the working heat.
- Use it as a base color by winding molten glass onto a mandrel to form bead bodies, then shape with gravity, marvers, or paddles.
- Apply it as surface decoration by laying down stringer lines, dots, or wraps over compatible soft-glass bases, then melt in smooth for clean edges.
- Pair it with clear for encasement or with contrasting opaques for layered color effects, keeping heat even to maintain a consistent surface finish.
