This is an Effetre Moretti filigrana rod made from a clear base with fine internal threads of red purple color running lengthwise through the rod. Filigrana is constructed by combining clear and colored cane, then pulling and reforming it so the color becomes evenly spaced internal striping. In lampworking, filigrana is used when you want built-in linework and pattern without having to trail multiple stringers by hand. It is a strong choice for beads, small blown forms, and decorative components where you want consistent striping, twist effects, and visual depth that stays clean and repeatable across multiple pieces.
How it is used:
- Warm the rod gradually and rotate often so the internal striping heats evenly and stays centered.
- Use it as your base glass for beads or small forms to get instant linear patterning as you wind or gather.
- Twist the rod while hot, or twist the gather on the mandrel, to turn straight filigrana lines into spiral and barber pole effects.
- Combine with clear encasement to magnify the internal striping and add optical depth while keeping the surface smooth.
