Filigrana is chosen when you want clean, repeatable lines and structured patterning without assembling multiple stringers by hand. In lampworking, it is commonly used for beads, small blown components, and decorative details where consistent striping and strong color definition are important, especially when the design will be shaped, twisted, or lightly encased.
How it is used:
- Work the rod like standard Effetre for beadmaking, small sculptural elements, and small blown forms.
- Pull it down into stringer to create fine striped lines for surface decoration, borders, and linework.
- Twist the heated rod or a pulled-down gather to create spiral striping, then apply those twists as design accents.
- Use small gathers as pattern stock, then encase in clear to add depth while preserving the stripe structure.
