This is a Moretti Effetre special color glass rod in Red Purple, supplied in a 5–6mm working diameter that feeds smoothly for soft glass lampworking. Rod is used at the torch because it heats evenly and gives you precise control for building beads, small sculpture, and decorative surface work. Red Purple is a deep red with a noticeable purple cast, making it a strong choice when you want a richer, wine-like red tone for wraps, overlays, and pulled stringer without the look of a bright primary red.
How it is used:
- Warm the rod gradually in the back of the flame to prevent thermal shock
- Wind onto a mandrel for beads, then shape with graphite tools or marvers
- Apply as an overlay to deepen color and add visual richness over lighter bases
- Pull stringer for fine linework, scrolls, and dot stacks with a darker red tone
