This is a solid colored soft-glass rod made by Effetre, commonly referred to in the lampworking world as Moretti. It is manufactured as straight cane in a consistent working diameter and is designed to be melted in a torch flame for beadmaking and other small lampworked components. Blue Sky Light Pastel is used when you want a soft, clean light blue that reads clearly in finished beads, works well as a base color for surface decoration, and pairs easily with both warm and cool palettes for simple designs, layered wraps, and fine stringer detail.
How it is used:
- Preheat the rod tip in the far flame to reduce thermal shock, then bring it into the working flame to form a gather.
- Wind molten glass onto a prepared mandrel to create a bead base, then shape with controlled heat and light marvering.
- Apply as dots, stripes, or wraps over compatible soft-glass colors to build simple surface patterns and layered color effects.
- Pull stringers from a small gather for fine linework, scrolls, and detail over contrasting base colors.
- Anneal finished work on an appropriate schedule for soft glass to reduce internal stress and improve durability.
