This is a solid Effetre and Moretti soft glass color rod in Turquoise Dark Alabaster, made in an opaque alabaster formulation and pulled into a rod size that is well suited for beadmaking and small flameworked components. Alabaster colors are used when you want a softened, slightly diffused color presence rather than a flat, hard opaque, which makes them especially useful for sculptural work, organic forms, and layered designs where you want depth without harsh edges. In lampworking, rod stock like this is used for consistent application of color in wraps, dots, small gathers, and for pulling stringer to create controlled line work and fine detail.
How it is used:
- Preheat the rod end gradually in the outer flame to reduce thermal shock, then bring it to a workable glow.
- Apply the molten glass as wraps on a mandrel for beads, or place small gathers for dots, petals, and sculptural elements.
- Pull stringer from a small gather to create fine lines, scrolls, and controlled surface decoration.
- Pair with compatible Effetre colors and clear for layering and casing when you want a softened alabaster look in the finished work.
