Description:
This is a solid, colored soft-glass rod made by Effetre Moretti in a light turquoise pastel tone. In lampworking, rods like this are used as the primary “stock” material you melt in the flame to build beads, small sculptures, and decorative components. The pastel turquoise color is especially useful when you want an opaque, clean-looking blue-green that reads well in both simple spacer beads and more detailed surface work.
Because this is rod rather than tubing, it’s ideal for gathering a controlled amount of glass directly onto a mandrel or onto a base form, then shaping with gravity, marvers, paddles, and hand tools. It also pulls down well into stringer for fine linework and can be layered over compatible soft-glass colors for striping and simple encasement effects.
How it is used:
- Preheat the rod tip in the outer flame to prevent shocking, then bring it to a working glow.
- Wind molten glass onto a prepared mandrel to form beads, or apply it to a base glass for surface decoration.
- Use a marver or paddle to shape, flatten, or true-up the form while the glass is still workable.
- Pull stringer from a heated gather for fine lines, dots, and detail work.
- Anneal finished work in a kiln using an appropriate schedule for soft glass.
