Description:
The Nickel Plated Wheel 8" Grit 80 is a diamond grinding wheel manufactured using SW Diamond Products proprietary diamond plating process, where diamond abrasive is bonded to the wheel surface through nickel electroplating. This nickel plated construction produces a long lasting wheel with high quality diamonds and balanced cutting action. The 80 grit grade is a medium grinding step positioned between coarse and fine shaping, used to refine the work after initial stock removal and prepare the surface for finer grinding steps. In lampworking and other glassworking workflows, this wheel is used in coldworking to transition from aggressive shaping to more refined edge finishing on components that will be further refined or fire polished.
How it is used:
- Refine edges after coarse 60 grit grinding removes bulk material
- Reduce saw marks and prepare surfaces for finer grinding steps
- Create smooth transitions on glass edges during the intermediate grinding phase
- Improve surface quality before moving to 180 grit and finer wheels
- Run wet on a lapidary grinder to control heat, improve cutting, and reduce dust
