Origin Black Frit (S) is a small-grade black glass frit used to add strong contrast, bold linework, and speckled surface effects in lampworking and other torch-based glasswork. Small frit particles give you more visual texture than fine frit while still melting in predictably, making it a dependable choice for both graphic designs and organic surface patterning. Black frit is commonly used for outlining, dot and trail effects, backing bright colors for extra pop, and creating high-contrast depth when encased under clear. It is also useful for reducing glare and visually tightening up busy color palettes by adding controlled dark accents.
How it is used:
- Heat the glass surface until it is evenly tacky so the frit grabs consistently
- Roll or dab the hot glass into the frit to apply light coverage or heavier texture
- Melt in fully for a smoother finish, or melt in lightly to keep more surface grain
- Use sparingly for outlines and contrast, or build up for darker, more solid coverage
- Encapsulate with clear to add depth and keep the surface clean while preserving the pattern
