Origin Cola Frit (L) is a colored glass frit made by crushing compatible color glass into irregular granules. This frit is used in lampworking when you want fast color application with a naturally broken, organic pattern that can be left slightly textured or melted in smooth depending on the finish you want. Large frit is selected when you want the individual particles to remain more visually distinct during application, creating bolder speckling and stronger color breaks than fine frit. It is a practical choice for surface decoration on beads, pendants, small sculptural components, and sections that will later be encased in clear for added depth.
How it is used:
- Heat the base glass until the surface is tacky, then roll the hot area in frit or sprinkle frit onto the surface.
- Reheat in a controlled, softer flame to fuse the particles in without scorching the surface.
- Decide on your finish by either leaving slight texture for a more granular look or melting the frit fully smooth for a cleaner surface.
- If you plan to encase, melt the frit in smoothly first to reduce trapped air and to keep the encasement clear.
