Origin Electric Blue Bars are solid color glass bars made for borosilicate lampworking when you want strong, clean blue color with consistent results. Color bars are typically pulled and formed into thicker rectangular sticks so they can be warmed, grabbed with hemostats or mashers, and fed into the flame in a controlled way. They are especially useful for quick color application, pulling your own stringer, making color overlays, and adding bold accents to sculptural work where you want more material on hand than a thin stringer provides.
How it is used:
- Preheat the end of the bar slowly in the back of the flame to reduce thermal shock
- Use it as a direct color feed to apply wraps, dots, and overlays onto clear or colored base glass
- Pull the heated bar down into stringer for fine linework, striping, and detailed surface design
- Use small gathers from the bar to build up sculptural elements like fins, horns, petals, and handles
- Encasing over the color can intensify the blue and give a deeper, cleaner look in the finished piece
