Origin Elephant Grey Frit (F) is a fine grade glass frit in an elephant grey color. Frit is made by crushing compatible glass and sieving it into a controlled particle size so it applies consistently and melts in predictably. Fine frit is typically used when you want the smoothest melt in, soft transitions, and the most control for subtle shading compared to small, medium, or large frit. In lampworking, fine frit is especially useful for evenly tinting a surface, building gentle gradients, and creating clean encased color without leaving a pronounced texture.
How it is used:
- Heat the base glass in a neutral flame until the surface is warm and slightly tacky.
- Roll the hot glass lightly through fine frit for an even dusting, or apply in targeted areas for shading.
- Reheat gently to fully fuse the frit in, keeping the heat broad to avoid pushing the fine particles into clumps.
- Add additional applications in thin layers to deepen the tone while keeping the surface smooth.
- Optionally encase with clear for depth and a clean finish, then anneal as appropriate for the glass type being used.
