Origin Elephant Grey Frit (S) is a small grade glass frit in an elephant grey color. Frit is produced by crushing compatible glass into particles and then sieving it into a consistent size range so it applies evenly and repeats predictably from piece to piece. The small frit grade is typically chosen when you want smoother coverage, tighter detail, and more controlled blending than you get with medium or large frit. In lampworking, small frit is commonly used for quick color application on beads, sculptural components, and blown details, especially when you want an even surface that can be cleanly melted in and optionally encased without leaving heavy texture.
How it is used:
- Warm the base glass in a neutral flame until the surface is tacky enough to pick up frit.
- Roll the hot glass through a small pile of frit or dip into a frit tray for controlled placement.
- Reheat gently to fuse the frit in, keeping the flame chemistry neutral to avoid scumming and to maintain a clean surface.
- Add additional layers in targeted areas for shading, banding, or gradient effects.
- Optionally encase with clear to smooth the surface and add depth to the color.
