Origin Light Grey Frit (F) is a fine-grade glass frit in a light grey color, made for smooth, even color application with minimal texture. Fine frit behaves almost like a granular powder compared to larger grades, so it melts in quickly and can produce a more uniform surface with less pronounced speckling.
In lampworking, fine frit is a strong choice when you want controlled, consistent color without adding bulk, especially on smaller beads, thin sculptural elements, stringer work, and detailed surface decoration. Light grey is commonly used as a neutral tone for shading, soft transitions, and layered color work where you want the form and detail to stay crisp instead of being visually dominated by the color.
How it is used:
- Warm the glass surface until it is slightly tacky, then roll or lightly press the hot area into the frit
- Use a gentle flame and steady rotation to keep the fine frit from blowing off before it tacks down
- Melt in gradually to avoid over-heating the surface and washing out detail
- Apply in thin coats for soft shading, or build layers for a more solid grey field
- Encasing can be used when appropriate to smooth the surface and add optical depth
