Origin Spring Purple Frit (L) is a large-grade crushed glass color frit made by processing compatible colored glass into larger particles that hold their shape longer before fully melting in. Large frit is used when you want more pronounced surface variation, bolder speckling, and more visual breakup than fine frit, making it a strong choice for beads, pendants, and sculptural details where you want the frit to read as distinct color islands before you fully smooth it out. Spring Purple is used when you want a bright, lively purple accent, layered color depth, or a more organic mottled look created by rolling hot glass in frit and controlling how far you melt it in.
How it is used:
- Warm the frit gently and keep it dry to reduce shock and popping when you roll hot glass into it
- Roll a hot gather or bead through the frit to pick up an even coating of larger particles
- Flash the surface in the flame to tack the frit in place, then melt in gradually to control texture
- Leave partially melted for a more textured, speckled look or fully melt in for smoother coverage
- Use over clear or a base color, then encase or melt in to build depth and dimensional color effects
