Origin Stone Grey Frit (F) is a fine-grade crushed glass color frit used for lampworking and kilnformed glass work. Frit is produced by crushing compatible colored glass and screening it into a controlled particle size. The fine grade is chosen when you want the smoothest melt-in, the most even coverage, and the least surface texture, making it especially useful for clean gradients, subtle shading, and tight detail work where larger frit would read as chunky or speckled. Stone grey is commonly used as a neutral base tone, for shadowing, and for natural stone-like palettes in beads, small sculpture, and layered color builds.
How it is used:
- Warm the bead or component to a tacky heat, roll it through a frit tray to coat, then reheat gently to set and fully melt the frit in.
- Sprinkle frit onto a hot area for controlled placement, then spot-heat to lock it in before bringing the whole piece up to an even melt.
- Use under a clear layer to add depth without heavy texture, or blend with other frit colors to create soft transitions and muted, granite-like mixes.
- In kiln work, apply frit to compatible glass for surface decoration or color blending, then fire to a tack fuse for texture or a full fuse for a smooth finish.
