Origin Yellow-Green Glow Frit in a large particle size is crushed glow glass intended for adding a photoluminescent yellow-green glow effect to glasswork. Frit is made by crushing compatible glass into graded particle sizes, and the large grade is roughly the size of pretzel salt. In lampworking, this type of frit is used when you want quick, controllable surface color and glow effects without pulling stringers or switching rods, and it is especially useful for rolling hot gathers, spot-application, and layered effects under clear encasement for depth and protection. This item is sold in 8 oz jars.
How it is used:
- Preheat a small amount of frit in a frit dish near the torch to reduce thermal shock and popping.
- Bring the area of the bead, pendant, or small gather to a smooth orange heat.
- Apply frit by gently rolling the hot glass in the frit dish or sprinkling frit onto the hot surface.
- Melt the frit in gradually with a neutral flame, keeping the piece warm and rotating to avoid chill marks.
- For a cleaner finish and better wear resistance, apply a thin clear layer over the frit and melt it in as an encasement.
- For kilnforming, frit can be used as a surface accent by sprinkling it onto sheet glass before firing, then capping or full-fusing depending on the desired texture.
