Simax clear tubing is precision-drawn borosilicate glass tubing manufactured for scientific and artistic lampworking where clarity, consistency, and reliable working characteristics are required. This tubing is constructed as a straight, hollow cylinder with uniform wall thickness, allowing it to be heated, stretched, sealed, and joined with predictable results. Clear borosilicate tubing is commonly used for making and repairing laboratory style components, forming sealed sections, building manifolds and connectors, and fabricating custom glass parts where a clean, transparent finish is important for visibility and inspection. In artistic lampworking it is frequently used as a base tube for shaping vessels, making blown forms, building encased structures, and creating clean negative space designs. This size is typically selected when you need a larger diameter tube for high volume sections, larger joins, or components that must maintain a wide internal passage during fabrication.
How it is used:
- Heat the tubing evenly while rotating to maintain roundness and prevent sagging
- Blow or expand sections to form bulbs, reservoirs, and larger volume shapes for functional or scientific builds
- Seal one end to create closed tubes, test sections, or preforms for further fabrication
- Join to compatible borosilicate tubing and fittings using standard lampworking sealing techniques
- Pull down into smaller diameter tubing or use as starting stock for custom transitions and connectors
