Description:
Simax clear rectangular rod is precision-formed borosilicate glass stock with a flat, rectangular cross section rather than a round profile. It is constructed as solid clear bar with consistent width and thickness, which makes it useful when you want broad flat faces, crisp edges, and predictable mass for heat control. In lampworking and scientific glass work, rectangular rod is commonly chosen for making paddles, flats, tabs, and structural elements where a round rod would roll or where you need a wider footprint for seals, bridges, or reinforced contact points. The flat geometry also makes it a practical starting stock for pulling flat stringers, creating clean windowed sections, and building components that need controlled alignment during assembly.
How it is used:
- Preheat and warm evenly, then work one face at a time to keep the bar from twisting as it softens
- Use the flat faces to create paddles, tabs, and bridges that need stable alignment during assembly
- Pull down into flat stringers or ribbons for overlays, line work, and clean geometric accents
- Build up and shape into small flat components, feet, or reinforcement straps where extra surface area helps
- Fire polish edges as needed to remove sharp corners after cutting or shaping
