Description:
Simax rectangular rod is clear borosilicate glass stock manufactured in a rectangular profile rather than a round rod. The flat faces and sharp edges give you a different working geometry in the flame, making it useful when you want clean planes, crisp corners, or controlled gathers that resist rolling on the bench. Rectangular rod is commonly used for building up flat sections, pulling custom strip and stringer, creating faceted or geometric design elements, and for stock prep when you want to cut consistent slabs or chunks for later assembly.
How it is used:
- Preheat the rod gradually and rotate through the flame to bring the full cross section up to temperature evenly.
- Use the flat faces as a stable surface for making paddled forms, geometric accents, and controlled gathers.
- Heat and pull to make custom strip or stringer with a flatter profile than round rod.
- Cut into shorter lengths for stock prep, then fire polish edges as needed before assembly work.
- Use as a backing or build-up material when you want a flatter contact area for welds and seals.
